Itinerary:
Early departure from the hotel. After a relaxing and scenic drive, we reach the beautiful Piva region and the Brezna village located approximately 1,000 meters above sea level. The whole area is a plateau, bordered on one side by the canyon of the River Komarnica, and speckled by birch forests, grassy meadows, and rocky hills. This terrain is perfect for what we came here to do – mushroom picking! After a traditional morning coffee and a short introduction, our knowledgeable guide will take us to explore the area showing us his secret and most favorite spots while looking for mushroom species such as Edible Bolete, Shaggy Parasol, Chanterelle, Button mushrooms, and a few more. During the hike, we will also see some typical mountain villages where our guide will tell us stories about the traditional way of life in the mountains. After a short break at the viewpoint overlooking the canyon of the River Komarnica, we continue with our hike, slowly circling back towards our basecamp and filling up our baskets with some more mushrooms. By the time we reach the basecamp, our legs should be tired, our baskets full of treasures, and our tummies ready for a tasty meal. Lunch will be prepared on the spot by our guide and with our help, using traditional recipes and fresh ingredients. (Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will find enough of all necessary ingredients along the way, so some will be prepared in advance). After a tasty meal, we can take our time and explore the surroundings a bit more before we finish the day and head back home in the late afternoon.
