Lovely Sights And Tasty Bites – Kuči Mountains Hiking Tour
Enjoy a great day hike to the beautiful Kuči mountains, enjoying wonderful views over lakes Bukumirsko & Rikavacko, and savoring the lunch made from ingredients you handpicked along the way. The hike is 11 km long, with approximately 550m of ascent and 500 m of descent and it is considered to be a medium-level difficulty.
Early departure from Podgorica and after an approximately 1-hour drive we reach the Bukumirsko lake, located at 1443 meters above sea level. It is a glacial lake and home of endemic species such as triton, a reptile known as Tritus alpestris montenegrinus. The lake is also the starting point of our hike. The trail will gradually take us higher and higher, passing by beautiful pastures and among the impressive peaks of the Kuči mountains. During the hike, we will be passing through traditional mountain villages and our guide will tell us stories about the traditional way of life in the mountains. After we pass through Katun Širokar, one of these mountain villages, we will reach a beautiful viewpoint overlooking Rikavačko lake and surrounding mountains. After a short break at the viewpoint, we continue with our hike, slowly descending towards Katun Mokra, a traditional mountain village, where the hiking part of our tour ends. Our driver will be waiting for us, and after a short drive, we arrive once more to Bukumirsko lake, where we plan to have a nice lunch. Lunch will be prepared on the spot by our guide and with our help, using traditional recipes and fresh ingredients some of which we will try to handpick along the way during the hike, such as mushrooms, nettle, forest fruit, etc. (Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will find enough ingredients along the way). After a tasty meal, we can take our time and explore the surroundings some more, or even go for a swim at Bukumirsko lake. Return to Podgorica in the late afternoon.
